PBS North Carolina and the Durham County Library proudly present an Indie Lens Pop-Up Screening of THE LIBRARIANS

Join us for a special screening and discussion featuring a new documentary from Independent Lens, THE LIBRARIANS.

When Texas lawmakers move to review and restrict library book lists, librarians across the country find themselves on the frontlines of a growing national battle over access to information.

THE LIBRARIANS is a timely and powerful documentary that examines the rising movement to challenge library collection standards particularly targeting books that address race, history, and LGBTQIA+ identities. Drawing on historical context and firsthand accounts, the film explores what these efforts mean not only for libraries, but for education, democracy, and public life in the United States.

Following the screening, join us for a community conversation and Q&A featuring librarians and educators. Together, we’ll discuss the real-world impact of book challenges, the role of libraries as civic institutions, and how communities can engage thoughtfully around issues of access, inclusion, and intellectual freedom.

Whether you’re a reader, parent, educator, student, or advocate for free expression, this event offers a safe space to learn, listen and connect around one of today’s most urgent cultural conversations.
