Downtown Durham, Inc. Presents Local Band Beauty World at Five Points Plaza

DDI will host a free musical performance by the local band Beauty World on Thursday, Feb. 22 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Five Points Plaza. This is the first event of its kind since DDI installed the new lighting canopy and standing-height tables at the Plaza.

Beauty World features Leah Gibson and Duncan Webster on cello and guitar. Indyweek says of the band’s latest EP, Joypop Turbo, “Every number is a substantial delight, from the lithe meandering of ‘Silky Drip’ to the bubbling current of the EP’s title track.”

DDI worked with the City of Durham’s Office of Economic and Workforce Development to install the new canopy lighting at Five Points Plaza (at the corner of Main and East Chapel Hill Street) in December of 2017. The lights and additional tables create a central hub for social engagement and public events.

“Durham would not be Durham without its unique culture around art, creativity, and pride of place,” said Nicole Thompson, DDI President/CEO. “While the city grows economically, it’s important that DDI and the community at large uphold and nourish our artists and creators who have been integral in making this a city that is loved by newcomers and Durham natives alike.”
