Downtown Durham, Inc Speaker Series Event – Aug. 29: The Urban Freeway Removal Movement

Durham, N.C. – Downtown Durham, Inc. will host its first Speaker Series 2018 event: The Urban Freeway Removal Movement, presented by McAdams, on Wednesday, August 29 from 4-6 p.m. at the Carolina Theatre, 309 W. Morgan St.

Can freeway removal result in less traffic and safer, more efficient cities? Guest speaker Ian Lockwood, a Livable Transportation Engineer and leader in urban freeway removal policy and design, will show how it has worked in other cities and could work in Durham. Lockwood will share case studies from cities of all sizes around the US that have reunited their communities through urban freeway removal projects. The discussion will take place from 4-5 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Following the presentation, participants are invited to attend a networking reception from 5-6 p.m. Tickets to the reception are $35 and are available at downtowndurham.com or at the event.
