Closing the Downtown Durham Streetery
We launched The Streetery as a way to support downtown businesses during this pandemic, fully recognizing that we would stay responsive to changes in transmission levels in our community. We waited to launch The Streetery until the state was at Phase 3, which allowed for small outdoor gatherings as well as indoor dining.
Recently, the NC Department of Health and Human Services created a color coding system for each county to indicate the rate of COVID spread. In the past week, Durham County has gone from code yellow to orange, as our COVID cases have trended upward. While Governor Cooper has not downgraded the state from Phase 3, he has mandated additional restrictions. With these things in mind, we have made the decision to cancel the remaining two weeks of The Streetery.
We are encouraging everyone to support our downtown merchants with carryout, curbside pickup, by purchasing gift cards and by shopping online. Here are some specific ways you can help support the small, locally owned businesses that make downtown Durham the amazing place that it is:
- Take the #durhamtakeoutpledge by committing to carry-out from a local downtown restaurant once or twice per week. Here’s a list of our restaurants to get you started.
- Buy your holiday gifts from a small, locally owned downtown retailer, or buy a gift card. Many offer curbside pickup. Here’s a list of downtown retailers and their services.
- If you’ve purchased or received a SpendaBull gift card, SPEND IT! The community gift card benefits our merchants when the card is redeemed in their stores.
- Check our social media for weekly giveaways and drawings to encourage shopping and dining locally.
Thank you to everyone who helped make The Streetery such a success.
WE CAN stay safe while we shop, dine and spend local. Our merchants need us now more than ever.
And an extra special thanks to the many volunteers who made The Streetery possible.
