The tree of life is one of the hallmarks of Warli iconography. It is the place where the entire village or community congregates. Here, they use an oak tree, a regional landmark tree – one that provides shade to all and a strong foundation, shown by the roots that sneakily spell out the word “Durham” as well!
This part of the wall shows how Durham has evolved into an urban, hip community where there are helicopters and planes in the sky, high rises and apartments all around, where all residents are involved in activities like music, baseball, dance, basketball, yoga, walking the dog, running, etc. Of course, they had to draw Warli-style, the Durham Bull too!
