PLAYlist Concert Series Presented by Durham Central Park and WNCU 90.7 FM
September 2 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Durham Central Park presents PLAYlist Concert Series in partnership with WNCU FM. The series is held in the park the first Friday of the month, from May to October. Concerts take place rain or shine.
Each evening starts with DJ Travis Gales spinning his Friday Night Mix live at the park at 7 p.m. Then the band takes the stage at 8 p.m. sharp. All the music is simulcast live through WNCUfm.
There are restrooms at Durham Central Park and the venue is wheelchair accessible. Parking is free in the lots caddy-cornered and above the park (entrances are on Foster St. and Morris St).
Local food trucks will be on site, as well as craft beer and other vendors.
There’s lawn seating, so please bring a blanket or lawn chair. Leashed pets are welcome.
JUNE 3rd Isaiah Sharkey
Isaiah Sharkey’s guitar-playing legend spans genres upon genres: gospel, R&B, blues, jazz, funk, and rock, and all with an unparalleled passion. Join us in the park on June 5th for riveting solos and tunes you can’t resist.
July 1st Wesley Noog
Wesley Nóog is a multi-instrumentalist, singer, composer, song writer, and band leader
with a career of more than 20 years. He is one of the most respected Samba-Soul
artists in Brazil today earning him the moniker “King of Samba-Soul”. July 1st, Wesley Noog will bring a Brazilian summer to DCP sure to make you sweat (from the dancing of course).
*SPECIAL THURSDAY DATE* JULY 28th Shana Tucker
Shana Tucker not only plays the cello, but weaves story, song, jazz, arts advocacy, culture, and community into her performances which give the audience a eye into the depth and wonder of her unique genre, Chamber Soul. Shana opens the PLAYlist Concert Series on May 6th with a night of Sade, another soulful presence that captivates. We cannot be more excited to hear Shana’s take on Sade wringing throughout Durham Central Park.
AUGUST 5th DeShawn Hickman, Charlie Hunter, Wendy Hickman
Sacred Steel’s roots and resurgence take center stage on August 5th, with DaShawn Hickman’s expert playing. The founder of the band, The Allen Boys, will be playing Sacred Steel, weaving song and memory and beautiful music with renowned guitarist Charlie Hunter and featuring stunning vocals by Wendy Hickman.
SEPTEMBER 2nd Gaby Moreno
Gaby Moreno’s music is a celebration of Song across the Americas. This Grammy-nominated Guatemalan native is bringing a beautifully spirited mix of genres that has no boundaries to Durham Central Park on September 2nd.
OCTOBER 7th Earth Wind and Fire Tribute
Earth, Wind, and Fire return to Durham Central Park thanks to CJ Baker, who heads up this all-star local tribute band. We had SO much fun last September, that we had to bring them back to DCP October 7th to bring you the funk, the fun, the mega hits and the deep cuts!
