Celebrate Southern Hip Hop and what it has given us: a sound, a motivation, a culture, a way of life.
Experience a multi-media art installation 8 years in the making including shrines to Southern Hip Hop lyrics, ambient sound and lighting and projections. Be moved by Spoken Word. And move yourself to a real Southern Rap dance party.
Hold on Be Strong is a newly completed art installation by Durham artist Dave Alsobrooks and it celebrates Southern Hip Hop with reverence, beauty, and attention to detail. Automotive finishes, wood grain, chrome, dirt from across the South, kicks and boots, ambient sounds, projections, and maybe a few surprises… all bathed in light. Jump in the deep end of this experience and be with the music and the message.
Accompanying this work will be Spoken Word by renowned poet (the 2023 Piedmont Laureate as a matter of fact), Dasan Ahanu. He’ll bring his own take on things and there’s no better complement to make the evening one to remember.
To round out a bona fide SouthernRap dance party will keep us on the flo’ til 1A.
