Durham Invitational Film Festival (DIFF) Preview Party

February 16 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Durham Cinematheque is throwing a party to announce the upcoming Durham Invitational Film Festival. The DIFF Preview Party, hosted by cinematheque director Tom Whiteside, will be at The Durham Hotel on Sunday, February 16, with clips and bits from films that will be featured at this one-time-only non-competitive festival to be held in June at The Fruit.

Durham filmmakers Kenny Dalsheimer and Penelope Nye will revisit their 2008 documentary “Bending Space: Georges Rousse and the Durham Project.” Director Carol Thomson will present clips from her 2016 documentary “The Rise and Fall of Liberty.” Greg Dinkins will give a preview of “Stereoscopic Survey,” his program about 3D photography in the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries. An announcement will be made about “Who Built This Town,” a collaborative project that will feature footage from films shot in Durham from 1936 to 1948, presented in fresh cuts and screened with live music. For a taste of that, Louis Landry will be playing music for a silent film at the Preview Party. And speaking of taste, there will be food, wine, and beer courtesy of The Durham Hotel.
