Durham Arts Council January Third Friday Reception
January 18 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Variety is the word of the day for January Third Friday at the DAC! From neon pop screen prints to dreamy watercolors to quirky mixed media abstractions, we’re featuring visual art for all tastes!
Our first floor Allenton Gallery features “MEGAGRAPHIC,” a screen print installation produced by artists associated with Supergraphic Print Lab. This installation brings together hand drawn or appropriated images to create a grid of bold, colorful content with appealing visual impact. MEGAGRAPHIC includes work by: Bill Fick (Supergraphic Print Lab Director), Robby Poore, Georgia Paige Welch, Matt Tauch, Raj Bunnag, Dominick Rapone. Head upstairs to view watercolor impressions of France’s cityscapes, seashores, and countrysides in Barbara Rohde’s “French Connections,” on view in the Semans Gallery. Inspired by the artist’s travels in France, these watercolors are at once meticulously detailed and delightfully effervescent. The adjacent Ella Fountain Pratt Legacy Gallery features “Glimpse,” mixed media work by Allison Tierney. The collection on view is a peak into the studio practice of the artist; numerous collages offer her a place to work through compositional and material decisions.
Back downstairs, don’t miss new exhibits on view in the Durham Art Guild’s SunTrust: receptions will be happening for “Sutured Compositions” by Ian Griffin, and “Lost in the Liminal See” by Scott Eagle.
Performing in the Pavilion, we’re delighted to welcome violinist/guitarist Gabriele Pelli, specializing in”fiddle music from all over the place!” Round out the night with refreshments and a family friendly craft: you’ve got yourself a DAC Third Friday. See you there!
