December 30, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm

Celebration of NC Songwriting:  Another inspired group of talent expertly assembled by Kirk Ridge.

Four celebrated songwriters gather for a night of original music and the stories behind the songs.

Alice Gerrard is known for her groundbreaking collaboration with Hazel Dickens in the 60’s and 70’s.   In 2017 they were inducted into the IBMA Hall of Fame. Alice has won an International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Distinguished Achievement Award, a Virginia Arts Commission Award, and the North Carolina Folklore Society’s Tommy Jarrell Award. Her 2015 album, “Follow the Music” was nominated for a 2015

Wyatt Easterling first came to Nashville as a folk singer and signed with former CBS label head Rick Blackburn. As head of A&R at Atlantic Records, Wyatt signed some of country music’s biggest names.  In time, he signed as a writer with DreamWorks Publishing, API and EMI where he had songs recorded by the likes of Dierks Bentley and Joe Diffie. He was twice a finalist in the prestigious Kerrville New Folk contest.

Bett Padgett has just released a new album “Turning Over Stones” that touches the soul and stimulates the mind. Though she is classically trained in piano and voice, it was folk music that won her heart. Her love of traditional and Celtic music gives her sound a blend of styles. She uses her talents on guitar (alternate tunings with partial capos), mandolin, piano, rootsy claw-hammer banjo and harp to back her rich alto voice.

Kirk Ridge has had songs featured on NPR’s Car Talk and Belfast’s Celtic Roots Radio. His lyrics have been published in American Songwriter Magazine, and he was cited by the 2020 NCNPR Tiny Desk Special as a “festival superstar”.  Kirk is performance director for Durham CenterFest and co-hosts the weekly “Pass The Hat” radio show on WHUP that features live original music.
