January 18, 2020 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every day that begins at 10:00 am, repeating until March 12, 2020

“My Roots,” recent paintings by Cornelio Campos, will be featured in the Durham Arts Council’s Allenton Gallery from January 10-March 12, 2020. The opening reception for the exhibit will be held in conjunction with Third Friday Durham, January 17 from 6-8pm.

Cornelio Campos is a self-taught Mexican-American artist based in Durham. Mr. Campos immigrated to the United States from Mexico as a teenager—a journey and process that now influence many of his paintings. Vibrant colors, iconic American symbols, and intricate geometric patterns define Mr. Campos’s work. Through his paintings, he illustrates some of the harsh realities of immigrating to America that immigrants often overlook. Moreover, he highlights deep-seated political issues that contribute to Mexican immigration, including the implementation of the North American Free Trade Agreement.
