DDI 2019 Speaker Series 2: Creating Equity in Commercial Ownership
September 24 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Innovative ideas that catalyze conversation and explore forward-thinking concepts for downtown Durham, followed by a networking reception.
President and CEO, Al. Neyer
Founder, Real Estate Enterprises for African American Leaders
Downtown Durham has had tremendous growth and development over the last 25 years. However, this growth has sometimes come at the expense and exclusion of Durham’s minority communities. As Durham continues to grow, how can we ensure that its minority stakeholders are present and at the table during key discussions around strategic planning and development? One way is to ensure their ownership in commercial and residential properties in key areas. Molly North, President and CEO of AI. Neyer; and Carl Satterwhite, founder of Real Estate Enterprises for African American Leaders L.L.C. (REEAAL), will discuss how they partnered to renovate the Vernon Manor, a $38 million adaptive reuse project that was 51% minority owned.
